Introduction |
> Racing games are always on my radar when they're released. Project
CARS was full of hype and promise when the initial screenshots
and movie clips were posted. I was hoping for something along the lines
of Forza Motorsport 5
or possibly Need for
Speed: Rivals. Let's see what Bandai Namco delivered... |
Graphics |
> No complaints here. Absolutely beautiful, realistic vistas with dynamic
weather and ultra detailed cars. Multiple views are available and sure
to suit everyone. Slightly Mad even managed to include sunshine
in your eyes without being overly difficult to see. |
Control |
> Here's the real test of a racing game, simulation or otherwise. On the
bright side, there are moments when you feel like you can purposfully direct
your vehicle around the race track like you want to win. Most of the time
though, you'll be struggling to find a way to keep the car on the road
and facing the direction you want to drive. Utter disappointment. Racing
developers: If you want to emulate fantastic gameplay/control, then copy
Forza Horizon 2. |
Sound |
> I can't remember the music on the game because I turned it off immediately.
That's okay, since I'm only interested in hearing tires squeal and V-8's
roar! Of course you start out with a whining go-cart, but at least everything
sounds great (for what it may be). |
Fun |
> There's a boat load of ways to play Project CARS including
career, quick race and online multiplayer (private or public). The list
of cars you can earn and unlock is huge [check]. The ability to tweak your
car's settings is a micromanager's dream come true. I would've liked to
have a weather setting, because it rains too much for my taste. Unfortunately,
you're going to get frustrated when you seemingly can't even complete one
lap without exceeding the track boundaries, which negates that lap time.
What could have been... |
Bottom
Line |
> I was looking forward to another great racing game on Xbox One.
Project CARS is not anywhere as good as it looks, and that's
a crying shame. Without (at least) good control there is no fun. Anyway,
I bought something that only managed to frustrate me to the point of trading
it in for cash. Maybe Project CARS 2 will correct these issues? |
