> Bayonetta: Bloody Fate is a full length anime movie based
on Sega/Platinum Games' 2009 videogame, Bayonetta.
Of course, high expectations are in order because studio Gonzo
did the animation. It started out in Japanese theaters on November
23, 2013, and was released on DVD/Blu-ray in 2014. Many of the same
voice actors of the videogame were used for the North American dub.
This makes for welcome continuity.
> The story basically mimics the original game, albeit with a few twists.
Bayonetta wakes after a 500 year sleep with no memories,
only rad abilities and the world to save. Rodin plays
the bartender/arms dealer that provides Bayonetta with some
sweet guns and a refreshing drink. She's on a mission to regain her
identity while battling a myriad of angel types. She meets up with
an old friend on her way to the final show down. So how does it look?
> As soon as I found out Gonzo was in charge of this anime,
I knew it would be great. They know how to draw and animate with
special effects like no other. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint
with this movie. The fighting scenes are amazing, much like they
were in the original game. Not once did I think to myself, geez --
they took a shortcut on that scene. It's probably because of the
Sega
affiliation, but there's no nudity (unless you count a view from behind
in the shower). So much for the MA rating. I'm sure I heard some
swearing in there, but that could've been PG-13. Awesome visual content
nontheless.
> Lastly, the music is decent, but does not always equal the on-screen
action. A cool feature is they included an arranged tune from After
Burner. Nice! The sound effects get the job done nicely
too. Overall, above average sound. |
