> Ever since I became interested in music, heavy metal has been a major
influence (in taste). Back in the early 80s, I had two friends that
were my main source of fresh bands. Having a local record shop stocked
full of import albums didn't hurt either! Anyway, they turned me
on to an up and coming Japanese band, Earthshaker.
> EARTHSHAKER/Earthshaker is their first release (to my knowledge), and
is obviously self titled. Compared to their later albums, this one
sounds kind of raw at times, but the band's talent is highly evident nonetheless.
As with many Japanese bands of the time, their music contained a combination
of Japanese and some English (thrown in for good measure, I suppose).
My main reason for becoming hooked, however, is their hard rocking tunes!
> The album contains mainly medium beat heavy metal with nice vocals, albeit
mostly Japanese, from the lead singer, "Marcy". The thing that really
attracted me though, was the clean guitar jams of "Shara". His technical
style suits me, as does the sheer energy of his solos. Throw in a
ballad or two and you have the resident metal formula of the time. |
