> Iron Maiden was the metal band I grew up with throughout my teenage years.
This isn't the album that turned me on to their metal mastery, but it was
my second purchase from their discography in 1982. At the time, vinyl
was the only way to go...
> IRON MAIDEN/Iron Maiden is the band's first album. It's unique
in that this is Dennis Stratton's only record with the band. I must
point out that for a first release, the quality of sound and talent of
the band really shine through. One of the things that I really like
about Iron Maiden is that many of their albums, including this one, contain
wall-to-wall great tunes. I can still pop this disc in today and
enjoy every song! Di'Anno's excellent vocals mesh perfectly with
Harris' bass and Murray's solos!
> You get quite a bit of variety in this record. "Running Free" offers
a rock 'n' roll beat; "Remember Tomorrow" is a masterpiece of vocals, guitar,
and tempo changes; and finally, "Phantom of the Opera" is what I would
call a classic heavy metal JAM! This is what the 80's metal scene
was all about! I only wish I had taken an interest in Iron Maiden
around 1981 for their tour of this album in Cleveland. |
