REVIEW:
> As of this review date, I've been following Loudness for
over 25 years. When the original members reunited back in 2001, I
had high hopes for their new material. I'm liking Loudness'
newer albums like Racing, Breaking the Taboo
and Metal Mad, after having much time to fully absorb and
acquire a taste for their new sound. Their latest video concert release,
Tribute
to Munetaka Higuchi Forever Our Hero, comes after the untimely
death of the band's long-standing original drummer (Munetaka Higuchi).
He died on November 30, 2008 of liver cancer. R.I.P.
> When I saw this video for sale I didn't know what to expect. Much
to my pleasure, this release has to be one of Loudness' best
performances captured on video. I'm sure Munetaka is
looking down with pride. The venue, stage, lighting, sound and band
performance are all top notch.
> Loudness pays tribute to Munetaka by playing a
full array of songs and displaying video clips of him on a screen behind
the drummer. Akira Takasaki does an exceptional job
of adding a little flare to the older songs, and I'd say Minoru Niihara
hasn't looked or sounded this great in quite some time. The only
thing missing is a patented Akira solo. However, Akira
does use a cool looking guitar with lights between the frets (see pix below).
Top all that off with an emotional ending as Munetaka Higuchi's
father comes on stage to take a farewell bow with the band. |
BOTTOM
LINE:
> Although this DVD was on the high end (4,640 ¥), it turns out to
be well worth every penny. Now that I own it, I can say no self-respecting
Loudness fan should be without it! I think their could be a substantial
American audience for this release as well.
