> The image of walking into Electronics Boutique on May 5, 1995 is strong in my fondest memories. You see, that was the day I bought a Saturn, along with Daytona USA, Panzer Dragoon, and Pebble Beach Golf Links! The forthcoming release of Daytona USA 2001 is sure to be memorable as well. > In December of 1999, rumors were rampant of an impending port of Daytona USA 2 (Model 3 arcade) to the Dreamcast. As it turns out, the real game Sega has been working on is actually a remake of the original. This Daytona is also reported to include all the different tracks of Daytona USA Championship Edition (Saturn), some entirely new tracks, and even more cars than ever. The biggest addition, however, is the Network Racing mode. > Naturally, the graphics will get a face lift, as the Dreamcast is much more capable than the Model 2 arcade board. The most important factor I hope they don't change is the gameplay, which is legendary. Amusement Vision spends most of their time on arcade games, so I hope that means a faithful translation. > If you want to play online (I'm sure you do), then you can basically forget about the import version. Otherwise, I'm sure it will be completely playable. The US version is due in February 2001 right now, which I think is very realistic. |
