     > Remember one of the most unique action/adventure series, where you played as a dolphin, to grace the 16-bit era?  Well, in case you weren't there, I'm talking about Ecco the Dolphin for Genesis/Sega CD and Ecco the Tides of TIme for Genesis/Sega CD.  Imagine a fantastic undersea world filled with dangerous sharks, narrow passages, and mucho puzzles to be solved.  Rest assured Appaloosa plans to maintain the same gameplay ingredients in their effort to recreate the magic of Ecco on the Uberconsole.  They're essentially trying to do for Ecco what Sonic Team did for Sonic -- bring the series to glorious 3D while retaining its original feel...

     > Man, just look at these pictures below (ouch!) -- they look awesome even at 40% of normal Dreamcast resolution!  Behold the enormous array of individual textures which make up the underwater realm.  Appaloosa claims that Ecco will not only be one of the best looking NextGen titles to date, but one of the best animating as well.

     > Ecco's duties will be largely the same as in his preceding iterations.  You begin the adventure by going through a series of tasks which add up to a tutorial on being a dolphin.  You'll learn how to feed, speak with other sea creatures, and perform various dolphin maneuvers.  A few of the obstacles you'll encounter include hungry sharks, dark caverns, and sticky jellyfish -- some are deadly, some are impassible.  Ecco just has to learn a few new songs and he'll be prepared for anything...

FIRST IMPRESSION:
     > The Sega CD version of Ecco the Tides of Time was enough to make me yearn for another sequel.  The excellent soundtrack alone was enough to keep me playing for hours on end.  As you can see, Appaloosa will oblige many a Sega gamer with the release of Ecco Defender of the Future.  I certainly hope they can meet their goal of creating another game with the ubersoftware stamp...
Potential: 9+
