> Arc Systems latest 2D weapons fight-fest should already be available in Japanese arcades as this article is published (courtesy of Sammy). Guilty Gear X (GGX) is the sequel to a popular PSX fighter and will utilize Sega's Naomi board first, then it will be converted to Dreamcast. Yes... another title to showcase the 2D prowess of the Uberconsole. I can't wait to see first hand if Arc Systems can match the excellence of titles like Marvel vs. Capcom. > GGX's graphics are said to be good enough to compete with Capcom and SNK fighters -- again, we'll see. In addition to detailed animation, GGX features 3D renderings, transparency effects, and enlarged characters. Arc created 7,500 frames of animation per character while the game runs at a smooth 60fps. The game's controls have punch, kick, sword, and super attack buttons combined with tension and guard gauges. Gone are the one move death blows... Instead, Arc put in one hit knock downs, side-stepping counters, and dash attacks. > Anyway, GGX should be a snap for import fans (like me). Since most Japanese games with reasonable American interest are being localized, it's safe to assume a smart publisher will pick up the US rights to GGX. Either way, Shin Force will be there... Heck, Activision even picked up the rights to Virtual On ~Oratorio Tangram~! |
