> Toka, a Paris
based developer, has taken on the task of making an Action/Fighter along
the lines of Sega's Dynamite Deka (Saturn/Dreamcast) and Golden Axe (Genesis).
This genre hasn't been overwhelmed with choices in recent years like others
have. Anyway, Toka is supposedly keeping an eye on assuring that
Soul Fighter attains worldwide appeal, especially in Japan.
> To begin with, you
can choose from three player classes: Warrior, Magician and Metisse (a
combination of the first two), each with standard hand-to-hand combat and
weapon attacks. The gameplay will be based around three buttons --
punch, kick, and block spanning 5 huge worlds, split into 12 sublevels.
A power bar for charging combos will be in the mix as well. Along
the way you'll have access to 14 different weapons. Another thing
you have to do is collect souls, which can be done by killing villagers
who have been changed into animals.
> We can expect
the graphics to look great and animate well (60 fps) because they are motion-captured
with over 100 animation sequences per main character. Real-time colored
lighting, shadows and fog plus skin animation on all characters will show
you the power of Dreamcast. Lastly, there are 5 bosses, and over
40 different devious enemies, each with 44 different motion-captured animation
sequences.
> This game is supposed
to be in Japanese arcades now or very soon. Toka is working hard
to have Soul Fighter ready for Christmas 1999 in America and Europe.
As for a Japanese home release, we have no date yet. Note: the game
has been delayed a few times since Sega supposedly didn't like the control. |
