> Capcom is releasing
just about every game in their library for the Dreamcast. One of
their lesser known arcade games, Tech Romancer (aka Kikaioh in Japan),
is the latest to be upgraded for the Uberconsole. Basically, its
a 3D mech fighter in free roaming arenas. It mixes Cyberbots (arcade/Saturn)
with Power Stone (Naomi/Dreamcast), but its gameplay is quite different.
Anyway, Capcom is promising a 200% arcade conversion, meaning that this
will not be a simple port.
> Among the improvements
are upgraded characters, data box (artwork and character details), movie
box (CG movies from the arcade), animation box (hand-drawn movies), CG
opening movies, more polygons, and higher frame rate. Other additions
are VMS/VMU mini games plus VGA Box and Rumble support. There are
two mini games included: the first game is a versus hit the other guy first
battle; the second game is a vertical-scrolling shooter, similar to the
one included with Power Stone.
> As for the game
itself, Tech Romancer features fast movement, fluid animation, and free
roaming 3D arenas. It has a four button control scheme: one button
for guard, two for attack, and one for jump. Naturally, special moves
like combos, dodging, counters, and super attacks are available.
A new twist is the fact that you have a rising damage bar instead of a
declining life bar. Also, if you stand still for a few seconds, your
damage bar will go down.
> This game should
be highly importable since it's a fighter. If that's not your cup
of tea, the American version should be out within a few months. Hopefully,
Capcom takes the time to convert the voice for America... |
