> Sega has been spoiling us with original racing titles over the years. Sega Rally (Arcade, Saturn) is largely responsible for starting the rally-wave in the videogame market. Test Drive V-Rally (aka V-Rally 2 in Europe) is Infogrames' attempt at competing with the respectable Sega Rally 2 on Dreamcast. Before you get the wrong idea, the words "Test Drive" comprise the only similarity between this game and the horrible Test Drive 6. V-Rally is a thoroughbred racer which obviously benefits from many hours of quality development... > The game offers tons of options, including Time Trial, Trophy, Arcade, and Championship modes. If you don't like the game's tracks, then make your own with the track editor. With five views to select from, there's bound to be one just right for you. In addition to being challenging, the tracks are varied in location (Spain, England, Finland, France, more...), time of day, weather and surface. Real-time car damage can be seen, which really adds to the realism. Top all that off with licensed cars and sponsors! > I've played the demo and am happy to report that V-Rally's gameplay is great -- as soon as you adjust the steering sensitivity (it's not sensitive enough to begin with). Essentially, this game reminds me a lot of Sega Rally 2. Thankfully, Infogrames managed to produce a rock solid frame rate, plenty of detail, and all the graphic effects we've come to expect from the Uberconsole. By the way, importing the Euro version is a snap. |
