INTRO:
         > Let me start out by saying, the idea behind Crazy Taxi is very simple, but at the same time, very well done.  The object is to pick up a customer on the street, and drive them to the destination that they specify. Destinations can range from a block away, to a whole map away. But of course, its not just that simple. There is a lot of traffic all over the city -- that's one of the challenges. Then there's all the side scenery (buildings, water, etc.). If you go into grass, you'll slow down, water, a near dead stop, so, try and stay on the roads.
         > Special DC enhancements include; the Crazy Box, Original Mode, and ability to set your time on the course. In Crazy Box, there are many mini-games which you complete to get better at your special moves (listed below). Original Mode is a whole new map, exclusive to the DC. Though, its not as polished as the Arcade map (a lot of slowdown) it is still a fairly good map.
GRAPHICS:
         > The graphics in this game are Great! There may not be many animations, and the people are a little blocky, but only really noticeable when the camera is swooping around while your picking up or dropping off a customer. And at all other times, your going too fast to notice, or at least you should be. The cars you drive also look great, a lot of lighting effects and sparks through the game. Though the cars on the road are a little blocky and flat looking.
CONTROL:
         > Well, this really depends on your choice of cars. Some are really loose and great for taking sharp turns without special moves (Gena), while others sometimes depend on a special move like a Crazy Drift (Gus). Really basic setup, Accelerate and Brake, Forward and Reverse. And then of course the D-Pad/Joy-Pad for steering, your choice. Different button combos result in different Tricks. There's the Crazy Drift, Crazy Boost, Limit Cut, turn on spot, and many more, most, if not all essential to complete the Crazy Box Mode.
SOUND:
         > The soundtrack includes the two bands, The Offspring, and Bad Religion. Normally I'm not much for these types of bands, but their style of music fits perfectly into Crazy Taxi. Its high energy and fast, the same qualities of Crazy Taxi.
         > The normal, in-game sounds are great too. Every customer has their own voice, with separate dialogue. But, sometimes you will here the male voices get mixed up. And they aren't just the run of the mill voice, they act and sound like a real person would. Example: Almost run over them while picking them up, and they'll start to bitch at you. same as if you take too long, But if you stop close, or get them to their destination quickly. They'll complement you while your driving, and when dropping them off.
FUN:
         > Straight forward, this is one of the most fun games I've played in a long time. You and your friends will have loads of fun trying to top each others score over and over. Then when he's/she's not around, you can always practice up. This is the kind of game that keeps people up long into the morning, trying to perfect a certain move, and top a high score. I know it has for me.
BOTTOM LINE:
     > A must buy for anyone that likes fast-paced games, and loves a challenge. With a rockin' soundtrack, great gameplay, and sweet graphics, this is sure to be an instant classic for the DC.
Overall: 9.0 | Graphics: 9.5 | Control: 9.0 | Sound: 8.5 | Fun: 9.0

INTRO:
         > Crazy Taxi's realistic cityscapes remind me of Harley Davidson & LA Riders (Model 3) while its non-stop hectic fury reminds me of Courier Crisis (Saturn) on speed.  Crazy Taxi allows you to select from four different taxi drivers, each with their own customized old-school taxicabs. Your objective is to pick up passengers and deliver them to their destinations as quickly as possible in order to earn the maximum fare and additional time.  Like Harley, arrows will guide you along the way.
         > There really isn't much of a conversion so importing isn't a problem.  However, I do suggest you check out a faq to learn the special moves which are critical for success.  At least Sega released both versions within a week's time.
GRAPHICS:
         > As expected, the graphics are essentially the same as the Naomi version.  The addition of new areas in the Original mode are the only enhancements.  Each area you travel to is rendered in rich high definition graphics and the animation is superb.  Real life locations like Pizza Hut, Tower Records, and KFC are included as well.  San Francisco never looked this good at home.  Just like the arcade, you'll encounter occasional slow down when the action gets complicated, but it's not a bother.  You only get a behind the car view which works really well -- more views would have been nice though.
         > Some special effects are included like burnout smoke, water, and flying sparks when you scrape the ground.  Your car's independent suspension is shown by up and down oscillations -- cool.  The draw distance is usually very good, especially when you consider the sheer amount of interactive objects on screen at once.  Lastly, if you're lucky enough to own and utilize a VGA Box compatible device, then you're in for a real treat!
CONTROL:
         > The controls are fairly simple, yet once you add in the special moves the gameplay becomes quite interesting.  Your buttons are horn, destination, accel, brake, drive gear, and reverse gear.  Various button combinations yield special moves like crazy dash, crazy drift, crazy back dash, and crazy back drift.  If you have the racing wheel, you'll be treated to near arcade realism.
         > Your goal is to pick up passengers, avoid collisions with cars, take short cuts, and reach the destination as quickly as possible.  The faster you get to where you're going, the more money you make and bonus time you get (bonus time only applies with arcade rules).  You can make additional tips by doing combos.  A combo is given every time you go by a car without hitting it.  Once you hit a car, the combo meter resets.  Along the way you can plow into all kinds of objects which will be destroyed and dispersed all over the road.
SOUND:
         > I'll tell you what -- normally, I don't like thrashing rock, but this game has the variety I can withstand.  The fact that it matches the on-screen action perfectly doesn't hurt either.  If you don't like it just turn it down in the options.  For the record, you'll hear Offspring and Bad Religion (courtesy of Sony records).
         > As it is, the sound effects are great.  It would have been nice to have more background noises, but I'll live with what you get.  You'll hear beeping (yours), skidding, crashing, some background noises, and various voice cues.
FUN:
         > Initially, some people may think Crazy Taxi is rather shallow since it's totally arcade.  Once you get into the game and learn the moves, it becomes a hell of a lot more fun!  Anyway, AM3 included Arcade (arcade rules, 3 min., 5 min., and 10 min. sub-modes), Original (arcade rules, 3 min., 5 min., and 10 min. sub-modes), and Crazy Box (numerous mini-games) modes for variety.  Add the choice of four drivers and their unique old-school convertible cars and you have the idea.  When you finish a game you're given a grade -- the object is to make enough money to get a "S license".  What can I say, Crazy Taxi is classic Sega fun!
BOTTOM LINE:
     > Crazy Taxi gets high marks for graphics, gameplay, music, and fun.  If you don't enjoy this game, then it's probably because its lasting interest level wasn't high enough for your taste.  For me, Crazy Taxi will mark yet another instant classic for Sega...
