Shinobi06.29.2001 | Gaming Recession | Index
Shinobi,

Heh heh, I've missed you too.  It seems like only yesterday - you, Diablone, NeoSega, Senpi and myself would take on Chris, Crash and Mrhacx in a battle of Sega vs. Sony, light vs. dark, good vs. evil - LOL!  I don't know, Sega's announcement to leave the hardware industry really put a damper on my enthusiasm for gaming.  For a while, I didn't want to play any games at all, let alone talk about them.  I would buy games at Best Buy or wherever because they were $9.99, take them home and just put them on the shelf with absolutely no desire to play them.  That and my job was keeping me extremely busy - that is until they started laying everybody off and I left about a month ago.  Now I'm just twiddling my thumbs waiting for the right job to come around.

Except for Sonic Adventure 2 and my GameBoy Advance (which I bought to take on a trip with me), I haven't bought a new release game in months.  Bleh.  I guess I'm slowly coming out of my "gaming recession", but it's been a slow process.  One thing that's been helping is GameGO! Magazine - it's extremely refreshing to read this magazine especially after months and months of BS from Daily Radar, IGN and the like.  I didn't realize how much I missed GameFan until it was gone.

Anyway, about this MGX from Buffalo...

"To top it off, he's just as cool as you are!"

He must be one cool dude!  Heh heh - I kid, I kid.  : )  That sounds really cool!  I'm looking forward to playing some PSO with you guys.  And maybe you can fill me in on this "Gleaming Cube Guild" thing - I might like to get in on that too.  : )

I'm on MST so I'll try to look for you online tonight around 7 PM my time tonight.  I'm not sure if I'll be able to play very long as I have some friends coming in from out of town tonight as well..  Damn, I can't believe you have 5 characters at Level 100; that's incredible!  You weren't kidding about playing a motherload of PSO!

I'll have to play some PSO today and get my Strider up to say... 1/5th of your guy's levels - LOL!

Later!

 - MGX

MGX,

Sega vs. Sony, light vs. dark, good vs. evil!  Heh... those were the good ol' days, weren't they?  I too have been in a gaming recession.  Had it not been for the most creative, enjoyable, original, long-lasting, unique, ground-breaking Sonic masterpiece, aka Phantasy Star Online, I wouldn't be playing much at all!  LOL, I too have bought games, and then just shelved them!  Gaming research -- I don't even bother going to any news sites regularly anymore. I'm just completely jaded =(  NCS and EBX are the only regularly visited sites by me, at this time.

GamoGO Mag?  I really am out of the loop, as I have no idea what that is.  If you like it, however, then that's a gold seal of approval as far as I'm concerned.  GameFan's demise was just a sign of the changing face of gaming.  Hardcore is OUT!  =(  Softcore is IN!  =(  Think about it....  GameFan is gone, NeoGeo is gone, Gamers' Republic is shakey, and Sega has morphed into a new company.  I don't like the direction gaming is going in, but I guess the pop culture does.  The fact that I would have to buy THREE new systems to keep up with Sega software just completely pisses me off!!!  I'll change the subject before that recession repeats...

Dude, at this stage of the game, I suggest you whip out a GameShark for some PSO assistance.  I can hook you up, if necessary.  Once you get to level 40, you'll be good-to-go and the game really begins to rock.  You know how to find me in the PSO realm... Valder & Co succeeded on their first try!  Strider, I know you can do it -- and I'm counting on you!

Cya,

Shinobi

Shinobi01.25.2001 | An Interesting Article | Index
I read an editorial at DC Swirl, claiming that Sega's greatest weakness is that they force players to buy Sega designed consoles to play Sega games. I'd think if you like Sega games, you should be willing to show your appreciation by buying a console. This brings me to another issue, I think there are a lot of people out there who like Sega games but for some reason would never buy a Sega console. You know, a few dozen editorials like this one on the web and Sega won't stand a chance against competing consoles.

I used to think Sega's problems were caused equally by there supposed failed add-ons, Saturn, and the media who would love to see Sega as a software producer only. I now see that Sega is struggling mostly because the media is repeatedly bringing up the past even though Sega has more than made up for it. Here's a link to the DC Swirl editorial. I'm sure you'll have plenty to say about it. One more thing, what would be the future of Shin Force if  Sega would become a software producer exclusively? Thanks for reading and Happy New Year!

s. n,

My gosh...  why is it a problem to buy a console that has games you want to play?  I thought that's why people bought consoles??  I don't see Sega's hardware as a weakness, rather as a strength.  It's through technical hardware advances and innovation that Sega has become what the media calls "a great software developer".  Think about it...  Panzer Dragoon Saga did not become a highly acclaimed piece of Sega software because the Saturn couldn't handle it!!!

I'm not sure of Shin Force's exact future if Sega becomes a publisher-only company.  We'll surely continue to chronicle the "complete Sega experience".  I don't know if "incomplete Sega" coverage would be acceptable to purists, like myself...

Good Gaming,
-Shinobi

PS: That article was so full of crap, I couldn't even finish reading it.

Shinobi01.17.2001 | Upcoming games for Dreamcast | Index
Hello,

One of my favourite games is the Sega arcade game Harley Davidson & LA Riders. I read somewhere that Sega had failed to convert this game for Dreamcast (which I find very sad if it is true). Do you know anything about this matter ?

Also, do you have any info about conversion of Sega's arcade games Jurassic Park The Lost World and Star Wars Triology ? (I don't own a Dreamcast yet but these 3 games would be reason enough for me to buy one).

Finally I have heard some rumous about Sega also will launch their games for Playstation 2 do you know anything about that?

Cheers,
Arvid Nielsen

Arvid,

Agreed, Harley Davidson & LA Riders is a cool Model 3 driving game.  I think the chance of Sega "failing to convert" this, or any other Model 3 game to Dreamcast is zero.  I didn't read the same thing you did.  You can draw your own conclusions, however, based on what I just said and your current knowledge.

The info I have on Jurassic Park The Lost World and Star Wars Trilogy Arcade being converted to Dreamcast is old and suspect.  I have neither heard or read any convincing evidence of these games coming to the Uberconsole in a long time.  It looks like we'll just have to wait.

Yeah, I heard the "Sega is developing for PSX2" rumors too...  and the "Sega is developing for N64"...  and "Sega is developing for X-Box"...  and "Sega is developing for PSX1"... and "Sega is getting out of the hardware business"...  and "Sega is going out of business"...  and "Sega is out of business"...  I'm still waiting for the proof.

Good Gaming,
-Shinobi
