> "The
problem is that analysts can actually affect the markets they cover, so
they have to keep their negative opinions subdued..." "...You'll
have to look long and hard to find an analyst waxing negative about Sony's
important omission..." "...Playstation 2 currently has a vapid void
(read: empty expansion port)..." "...Selling a PS2 hard drive at
$200 (a fiscally reasonable prediction) would seem hopelessly expensive
in the shadow of Xbox's ostensibly free hard drive..." "...So, you
see, the problem with Sony's Trojan Horse is that it's been rolled successfully
past the gates of Troy, only Sony forgot to fill it with soldiers."
> Don't worry Sony fans. My money is on Sony to become the first
console manufacturer to "successfully" market broadband adapter and hard
drive add-ons for their Trojan Horse (PSX2).

> "Historically,
realtime strategy games have been the stuff of PCs, rarely venturing onto
consoles. Of course, that was before consoles were as powerful as
the Playstation 2."
> Is this guy for real? This quote was taken from a preview of PSX2's
first forthcoming RTS, and now it's insinuated that PSX2 is the default
RTS console of choice!?! What about "Herzog Zwei" (Genesis), "Dune:
The Battle for Arrakis" (Genesis), "Command & Conquer" (Saturn), and
"Warcraft II" (Saturn)? Were all those games RTS PC ports, except
for Herzog Zwei? This is par for the course. Remember when
some of the media reported Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX) to be the origin
of console strategy/RPGs? It's a focaccian joke...

> "Your
friends are not gamers -- period. They are just consumers who have
discovered their first electronic plaything. Like so many of today's
"gamers", they discovered games with the release of the Playstation and
have little concept of what a good gaming experience is. They believe
that Twisted Metal 3 and Tomb Raider 2 are good games because the TV tells
them so. 'It is advertised on MTV, it must be good!' Alas,
another soul is lost..."

> "It's
actually ironic that Playstation 2 can run original Playstation games,
because it makes you realize very quickly that the major difference betweeen
the majority of PS2 and PSX software is that things look better on PS2.
They certainly don't play much better."
> Notice, the PSX2 is not vilified for playing "old" games. Hey,
it's a good thing we have NextGen around to state the obvious in such an
unbiased manner. As always, I'm all for backwards compatibility --
kudos to Sony.

| Sega's Arcade Power Grows
> "The
new hardware packs a PowerVR co-processing engine that will enable full
hardware geometry transformation and lighting. The use of multiple PowerVR
rendering processors will also be enabled by the hardware, also a feature
of the Naomi board currently in use by Sega. All right we confess this
jargon is all a bit beyond us, but the upshot is that Sega is still very
much alive in the hardware arena."
> (uncontrollable laughter).... There you have it folks! Sega
is officially still alive in the hardware business. I realize this
may be news to some so I thought I'd spread the word.

With all the internal reshuffles, renames and re-positionings you might
be forgiven for forgetting that Sega is actually a games company.
However, SoA's latest release schedule still has the titles to make Dreamcast

> "While
the technology is impressive, it seems that it's impressive in the same
way the Saturn hardware was 'impressive': 8000 different processors
(OK, that's a bit of an exaggeration); not enough RAM; display problems,
etc., etc. Why the PS2 hardware was lauded as revolutionary when
the Saturn hardware was derided for being poorly designed is a little beyond
me at this point."
> Whoa... I never thought I would see this echoed in the media.
I have to give GameFan credit for standing up for the truth. Not
to mention, many developers are touting the complexity issue for PSX2 (while
accepting it carte blanche).

> What do they mean, "rumored to be rushed"??? They're always quite
certain when a Sega game is rushed or delayed, or both. Also, this
is yet another third party fumble -- I thought third party companies were
the key to excellence.

what could keep a game with this many positives from getting five stars?
For starters, a ton of bugs would justify the drop in score. As if
that wasn't enough, Gran Tourismo 2 clearly wasn't finished when it shipped.
Sony even stated that 'players connot finish GT2 more than 98.2% due to
production problems.' In other words, the game is not complete and
it shouldn't have shipped."
