INTRO:
> Sonic Drift 2 (SD2) is the sequel to a popular mascot racer which (unfortunately)
is exclusive to the Game Gear. Obviously, Sega combined Sonic the
Hedgehog with Power Drift (arcade/Saturn) to make this series. The
concept is basic... race against three rivals while using power-ups
to gain an advantage.
GRAPHICS:
> The graphics are about the same as every other Game Gear racer.
That's code for old-school, 8-bit fake 3D. At least they're colorful
and the scenery is varied. The seven characters are distinguishable
and the movement is smooth... What else do you want in an 8-bit game?
CONTROL:
> The gameplay is easy -- just put the hammer down, steer and collect power-ups.
Included in those are speed-ups and bombs. Even though there are
seven characters in the game, you only race against three at a time.
To top it off, there's even an overhead map to keep track of your position.
SOUND:
> The music is... well, it's Game Gear. Same for the old-school
sound effects. Nothing wrong with the sound, it's just ancient.
FUN:
> You can choose from the Chaos GP and Free Run modes. There are
seven characters including Sonic, Mecha Sonic, Dr. Robotnic, Knuckles and
Tails. If that's not enough, SD2 has 18 tracks to master! I've
never tried it, but a link game seems like fun to be had...
