INTRO:
         > The first book to the renowned series of Y's. You are a wanderer who arrives to a land in turmoil. The nearby mine is now plagued by monsters and a mysterious sorcerer, Dark Dekt, is setting into motion an unknown, but undoubtedly nefarious plan. The town seer is desperately looking for a swordsman to help her prevent the disaster she foresees. And the means  to bring peace back requires the strength of a hero to find the 6 legendary books of the Goddesses of Y's.
GRAPHICS:
         > For 8 bit very good. Everything is well detailed for a game of this time using this technology. The background terrain at times are just huge swaths of pigment with added texture, but at other moments the details are fantastic for this generation of games. One must see the shots for characters met in homes, they add realism and atmosphere to this old game. The monsters are well designed at the later levels and the graphics only get better the further you go. Excellent.
CONTROL:
         > It is daunting at first to come to terms with the fighting system. You have to touch your enemy without just colliding into them, and yes it is possible to just touch them with the sword and back away, it just takes time to master. Otherwise the equipping/item use system along with field map control are excellent. Their simplicity allows quick changes for a switch of tactic in the middle of combat, thus it is not only accessible but versatile as well.
SOUND:
         > Remarkable at certain points, particularly boss scenes. Overall not as catchy as Zelda (but what is?), yet excellent none the less. The sound effects are subdued for slashing, yet sound like a buzzer when your hit. Not as good as the music, and getting hit makes me flinch from that sound.
FUN:
         > Yes. But this game is hard, you must be ready for that. Also keep multiple saves for your single game. You are allowed to mess up to the point of irrecoverable, and starting all over is really no fun. This game is the serious version of action RPGs, more adult oriented is a better way to describe it. This is no walk in the park, but it is the challenge and story that brings you back.
BOTTOM LINE:
     > When NES owners in America had Zelda, SMS owners had Y's. To compare them wouldn't be fair... to Zelda... heh, heh. Kidding, both are great games. Everyone should experience the serious action RPG of 8 bit days. This is what started the classic series (oh yes, very classic) and this was its first appearance on American console shores. We SMS owners were spoiled at this time, and we were selfish enough not to share the good news. :)  Now it's time to spill the beans on the gems we were enjoying when NES owners backs were turned. Enjoy!
Overall: 8.9 | Graphics: 8.9 | Control: 8.7 | Sound: 9.0 | Fun: 8.9
