INTRO:
> MegaRace was originally a PC game which was converted to the Sega CD
while maintaining its FMV nature. Basically, you're on a futuristic
TV game show where you compete in a virtual race to the death against various
gang members. The game also has loads of FMV cut-scenes to build
its predictable story line.
GRAPHICS:
> There are 15 pre-rendered environments to race in which have a shallow
amount of detail. The FMV cut-scenes and gameplay screens are smooth
enough, but they're also devoid of color. If I had to guess, I'd
say the game never goes over 32 colors on screen. Normally, this
by itself wouldn't be enough to completely kill a game...
CONTROL:
> After you throw in the non-existent gameplay, you come up with little
to find merit in. Yes, there's weapons, steering, braking, and acceleration.
However, you never feel (even remotely) like you're actually driving the
car. Not even the power-ups, which are attained by driving over the
correct street marking, could save this lackluster game.
SOUND:
> All in all, the techno, sometimes rock music is acceptable. The
sound effects are weak, few, and far between. The FMV sound is good
enough...
FUN:
> MegaRace has 8 cars and lots of tracks, but you probably will not even
get very far before you turn the game off in complete boredom. For
one thing, you can't skip an entire FMV cut-scene sequence -- only one
part at a time. This makes for a long wait when continuing (assuming
you want to)...
