> I never expected a game like Otogi from a developer like From Software.
They're not exactly known for making ninja-type action adventure games.
At any rate, Otogi must have made a decent enough splash in Japan for Sega
to pick up the North American rights to its release.
> I've played the demo and I pretty much like the gameplay. You spend
most of your time hacking and slashing various enemies on your way to a
level boss. You have a limited amount of magic at your disposal as
well, which can be charged as in Mystic Defender (Genesis). In the
process of clearing a given level, you'll end up destroying everything
-- even buildings! The thing I didn't much like is that Otogi has
no auto-center for the view, which means your perspective just wanders
around. The saving grace is that you can lock-on to an enemy.
You can also manually move your perspective, but that's slow and cumbersome.
There's more to this game than straight action though.
> You're Raikoh, a mythical Japanese hero sent to purify the land of evil
spirits. You'll have a choice of deadly weapons, magic and accessories
to get the job done. Otogi is presented in traditional Japanese locales
with music to match. Overall, from what I've seen, the graphics are
top notch. Special effects abound, too, as expected. I'll be
sure to give you more details in my forthcoming review of Otogi. |

> If Sega bothers to correct the loose view and/or add an auto-center,
then Otogi could really be an awesome game. Even so, the setting,
hero, enemies and locales are quite intriguing. This game will be
mine on launch day. |
