> It was 1982 and I was in West Germany visiting relatives for summer vacation.
The idea of buying record albums was very new to me, as I was 15 years
old without a job. I did have some spending money, and while beginning
my collection I came upon Iron Maiden: Killers. Back then
record stores in Germany were ahead of those in America because you could
listen to the album before buying it... Yes, I first bought it on vinyl.
> Killers is the band's second album. It also happens to be
Iron
Maiden's best, IMO. The only lineup change is the addition of
guitarist Adrian Smith, because of Dennis Stratton's departure.
Other than that, this album is a fine extension of Iron
Maiden, their self titled debut effort.
> Killers came out when metal was beginning to gain worldwide popularity.
My favorite songs are the 1-2 combination of 'The Ides Of March' and 'Wrathchild',
a guitar laden instrumental and a high powered vocal jam respectively.
The 'Prodigal Son' is just a fantastic ballad, filled with Steve Harris'
exceptional
bass and lasting over six minutes. 'Innocent Exile' is a sweet mixture
of drums reminiscent of Cozy Powell (Rainbow), an unbelievable
bass line and guitar solos which would be emulated by other bands for years
to come. What can I say? All the songs are more than worthy. |
