     > Grand Theft Auto is now a two part series that you either get into or get bored with.  Grand Theft Auto 2 (GTA2) features seven ruthless gangs engaged in a ruthless power struggle.  Your job is to gain respect, take on various jobs to earn money, avoid the cops, and tear up the streets in your favorite (usually stolen) vehicle.  Plenty of on-foot and driving action awaits your controller.

     > The graphics are 3D polygon generated with a top down view of the cityscapes.  It's sort of reminiscent of the top down stages is Thunderblade (yeah, the old arcade/SMS/Genesis helicopter shooter).  Anyway, things move along nicely unless your driving a fast car with a bunch of vehicles on screen -- in which case the frame rate drops.  The realistic lighting and explosion effects are well done and show the power of Dreamcast.

     > You'll probably decide if GTA2 is for you based on its gameplay.  Basically, you walk and drive around a large city, collect weapons, take on jobs, avoid the cops, steal cars, and kill people.  I'm actually amazed that nobody (in Congress) seems to be complaining about this game's premise.  One of the coolest aspects is when you go on a rampage and kill a certain number of people within a limited time (not in real life, only in games).  The city is huge, however, which makes it easy to get lost.  Therefore, you really need to put some time into GTA2 to fully appreciate and understand what's going here...

FIRST IMPRESSION:
     > This game has merit for those who would put enough time into it.  It's not my kind of game though as playing the part of a punk gang member working his way to the top isn't my idea of a healthy profession (even in the world of make believe).  At least DMA made a big improvement over Wild Metal in the graphics department...
Potential: 7+
