> Roadsters is another attempt at the race for money to upgrade your car genre. It's similar to Speed Devils, which was released by Ubi Soft last year for the Uberconsole. It has some licensed cars while others just look like the real thing. Aside from the competition of racing, you'll have to deal with various natural disasters like tornados and earthquakes (a 'la Speed Devils). Titus boasts 30 cars, 4 modes (Trophy, Multiplayer, Quick Race, Time Trials), changing weather conditions, 10 tracks, 8 drivers, and betting to boot. > Now, I've had limited time with the game, hence the preview. The graphics are pretty good with a decent frame rate, but there is an occasional frame loss. There is noticeable, yet not bothersome draw-in too. Actually, some of the effects in Roadsters look better than in Speed Devils -- the lightning and waterfalls come to mind. The car models are OK, but no where near games like Sega GT and Sega Rally 2. What does it play like? Roadsters' gameplay is somewhat suspect because the physics are off and the crash detection is too. It's annoying how your car seems to stick to your rival's car when driving side by side. I guess it's acceptable. The music is generic and the engine sounds like a broken rice-burner. > Roadsters could have been a lot better with some more time and a few consultations with Sega programmers. As it stands, I'd recommend a rental first -- afterwards, a purchase if you can justify it. Who knows, maybe Ubi Soft can make the real sequel?... |
