> For the longest time people kept anxiously waiting for the day that Core could once again unleash Lara Croft on a Sega console. Now that Sony's deal is over, Sega and Eidos quickly moved to ensure Sega Fans would once again be able to play Core's games. It's been a long wait since the first Tomb Raider's appearance on the Saturn -- let's hope it was worth it... > According to Eidos, Tomb Raider TLR would receive more than a mere PC port to the Uberconsole. I haven't seen the PC version so comparisons are impossible. Anyway, they said the Dreamcast version would feature enhanced sound, high resolution, bump mapping, environment mapping, volumetric fogging, real-time shadow casting, an enhanced lighting system, and a greater draw distance. Well, I've seen and played the Uber-version and it looks good, but not great... > The movement is fairly steady and the environments are large with no noticeable mid stream loading. There are plenty of effects like splashing water, bubbles, sun rays, light source shading, etc... In my opinion, Lara doesn't have the most impressive 3D model I've seen on the Dreamcast -- certainly not as good as MDK2's characters. > Lara has plenty of moves to learn and utilize in the various labyrinths. You'll do things like run, jump, tumble, 1st person view, climb, scale walls, swing, and swim. My experience is that the control is a bit on the loose side. You're given the option of digital or analog control -- I prefer the digital setup. > There's not much else to say except that a Japanese localization is pending for this summer. Core is back, but I think they tripped along the way... Hopefully their next release is given the proper resources. |
