> Let's face it, other than Ninja
Gaiden, the Xbox is lacking in the Shinobi
Ninja action department. Now, I don't really expect Red Ninja:
End Of Honor to superceed Ninja Gaiden in any way,
or to be a Shinobi clone. However, it could be for
the Xbox what Kunoichi
is for the PSX2 -- a good Ninja game with a hot babe
to control. Let's hope newly formed Tranji, a spin-off
from Opus and New Corporation, has a few tricks up their sleeve, especially
for the Xbox version of this game. Anyway, here's the
scoop so far, which pretty much straight forward...
> Japan in the 1500's -- it is a chaotic time. The power and influence
of the Samurai class is fading and the use of the Ninja has become necessary
to hold any political power. You play as Kurenai, a "Kunoichi", which
is the Japanese term for female Ninja. Kurenai is a young girl who’s
world is destroyed when she and her father are attacked by the deadly Black
Lizard Clan. They've captured her and brutally left her to die while
being hung by a wire. After surviving this torture, she's rescued
and adopted into a clan of Ninja, where she obtains complete mastery of
her unique wire weapon, the Tetsugen. Having pledged her undying
loyalty to her new family, Kurenai now lives to avenge her father’s death
and will use any means necessary to destroy the Black Lizard Clan.
> From what I've seen in screenshots, I'm not entirely sure that Tranji
has the power of Xbox under control. Maybe this will
be a mere PSX2 port? The character models look almost
like N64 graphics (to me). We'll just have to wait
and see. At any rate, here's some of the main features to be experienced
in Red Ninja. Wield the revolutionary wire weapon,
the Tetsugen, where the functionality of the wire is determined by the
end attachments, length and strength of wire. This creates dynamic
gameplay that combines action, adventure and stealth. Shinsuke
Sato (The Princess Blade), a feature film writer/director from
Japan, provides a muriad of beautiful, large environments and event driven
storyline/cutscenes. The unique gameplay Red Ninja
includes the ability to "Seduce" guards, run along walls, air walk, walk
on water and use invisibility to distract your assailants. I'm interested
to see how this seduction gameplay works. Finally, choose how you
will eliminate your enemy by using various additional weapons like blowguns,
smoke bombs and rocket explosives. Since Sega isn't
doing the Xbox justice (at least in this genre), I certainly
hope Tranji will make a worthy addition to your library. |
