> A lot of games have come out on Dreamcast since Tomb Raider IV. Most sequels have noticeable improvements over their prequels. Core, the creators of such awesome games like BC Racers (Sega CD / 32X), was given the challenge to continue Lara's legacy. In case you didn't know, the Tomb Raider series is all about action, adventure, puzzle solving, enemy killing, and searching. > First, I'd like to assure you that I've already played the Tomb Raider Chronicles (TRC) release. In my opinion, the frame rate is much smoother now. However, the complexity of the locales, characters, and Lara are not exactly an improvement. As for the gameplay, the control is still a little on the loose side, and the camera takes too long to follow you around a corner. Anyway, I assume this was a PC port, as it uses the Windows CE Operating System. My guess is that little to no improvements were made over the PC version. > Now on to the new stuff. TRC encompasses four new adventures which take you from the bowels of a German U-boat to the rooftops of a high tech city. New moves like tightrope walking, hand-to-hand stealth attack, and parallel bar swinging help you to overcome the numerous obstacles ahead. Your choice of weapons includes a sniper rifle, chloroform, grappling hook gun, and much more. Core also enhanced combinations of weapons and accessories in the new inventory system. > Will this all be good enough? I don't know, but I hope Core is given the freedom to program at least one Uberconsole game from the ground up. Well, TRC should find its way over to Japan in 2001. Obviously, I would recommend the US version though. |
